Audience participation taken to the next level
Port of Antwerp and the Flemish government have a tradition of inviting everyone for the last time into the new port docks and locks before they are filled with water. Act!events was chosen as the event agency to make this happen for the Deurganckdok lock, the biggest lock in the world.
We wanted to involve the audience and created the concept “Become godparent of 1 square metre of lock”. By attending the event, every visitor received a certificate of his or her personal square metre of lock. Posing with the certificate and taking selfies at the bottom of the lock were encouraged.
During the weekend we ran out of square metres to give away! 44,000 people visited the lock and surrounding area and enjoyed a drink with friends and family in our event village. Managing a crowd this big on a massive event area was a logistical masterpiece.
